The origins of yoga have been speculated to date back to pre-Vedic Indian traditions, is mentioned in the Rigveda

Today is birth anniversary of Madhav Sadashiv Golwalkar (Guruji) who was 2nd Sarsanghchaalak of the RSS. Two of his best quotes "bunch of thoughts" which to me defines the ideals of Sangh work.

Light is present everywhere, but it does not carry out all the works. It only dispels the darkness and shows the way for all. That is the nature of the Sangh-work also. If the Sangh were to take to preparing and executing plans of action in every field of life, then there will be confusion all round. It would have to prepare thesis on any and every problem. And that would result in the stoppage of the basic work of social rejuvenation and there would be only theses and theses galore!

So if a person has certain great qualities let him come down from his 'heights' to the level of the average man and share his greatness with the rest of his brethren in society. Let him become one with others without making others feel that he is something extraordinary. Even a remote shadow of separateness arising out of the consciousness of one's capacity and sacrifices should not be allowed to fall between oneself and the people. After all, the various virtues that a worker strives to cultivate in himself are for the sake of offering them at the feet of society. That is the essence of real greatness.

For, it is a matter of common experience that it is only be developing one's unique characteristic that man rises to his full stature and enjoys bliss and happiness. So, to seek harmony among the various characterstics has been our special contribution to the world thought. The oft-quoted feature of our racial genius, that is, of recognizing unity a midst diversity, stems from this deep appreciation of the principles that water the roots of human unity, human happiness and evolution.
